From Hype to Reality: Where Markets Are Reinventing Themselves

As the summer holidays slowly draw to a close and daily routines pick up speed, things are far from quiet on the financial markets. Anyone who looked at their portfolio in recent weeks witnessed a classic tug-of-war: corporate earnings are surging, but beneath the surface, a noticeable shift in momentum took hold in July.

In our latest Financial Market Monthly (August 2026), we tracked down the most compelling trends:

Daniel Brem CIO bei 4E Capital

"We are currently seeing very clearly that the wheat is being separated from the chaff. While the outstanding Q2 results highlight the fundamental strength of many companies, the market is taking a closer look: purely unprofitable AI promises are being penalized, while value stocks and overlooked sectors such as energy and financials are gaining strong momentum. In an environment of rising real yields, the focus is now on selecting companies with genuine earnings growth and a solid balance sheet, rather than blindly chasing market trends."

- Daniel Brem CFA, Chief Investment Officer & Partner

  • The Great Portfolio Rebalancing: The previous top performer, Information Technology, took a breathing spell in July (-4.1%). Instead, entirely different sectors stole the spotlight: the energy sector surged +12.7%, followed by a strong comeback in financials (+6.5%) and real estate (+2.9%).

  • Quarterly Earnings Shatter Expectations: Anyone who expected corporate profits to plummet was completely caught off guard. The S&P 500 has delivered a massive Q2 earnings growth rate of +47.4% so far (compared to expectations of just 23.1%). Key drivers like Alphabet (+294%) and Amazon (+242%) delivered absolute earnings fireworks.

  • The $8 Trillion Tsunami: While 10-year US real yields reached 2.47% on the bond markets—their highest level since 2008—a gigantic mountain of cash is waiting on the sidelines: over $8.29 trillion is currently parked in money market funds. If even a fraction of this capital begins to move back into the market, it could shift the balance completely.

Late summer 2026 brings a whole new dynamic into play—moving away from the hype surrounding individual tech giants toward broader opportunities across all sectors.

Which individual stocks stand to benefit from this rotation, and where are the most compelling entry points emerging?

In the full report, we take a closer look at our latest quant screening in the healthcare sector, analyze upcoming central bank interest rate decisions, and highlight what matters most through the end of the year.
